101 Years of British Art

Gallagher and Turner

The art produced in Britain over the last century defies easy definition or classification. It spans the portraits of Augustus John and Clare Winsten, who embraced post-impressionism in the 1910s, the neo-romantic landscapes of John Minton and Keith Vaughan, reflecting on the aftermath of the Second World War, and the eye-catching imagery of superstar artists like David Hockney and Gilbert & George, whose provocative work made them household names today.
This exhibition is also an opportunity to exhibit local favourites alongside artists of national distinction. Consider Norman Cornish’s stoic miners alongside ‘Angel of the North’ creator Antony Gormley’s ethereal figures, for example. Or Richard Hobson’s industrial landscapes next to the enduring monuments captured by John Piper.
‘101 Years of British Art’ brings together some of Gallagher & Turner’s favourite artists both past and present, in an exhibition celebrating some of the finest painting, drawing and printmaking produced in the last century.
All works will be available for sale.
